Discover our history

Time travel through the tavern

For generations, Gasthaus zum Lex has been a place where people come together to enjoy themselves and experience tradition. For centuries, guests have gathered here in Prati to eat, chat, celebrate, or play cards. What started as a small house has grown over time into a lively tavern full of warmth and history. Join us on a little journey through time – to moments that have remained.

Until 1500

Origin as ‘Mesenlehen’ (1276). The estate, then known as Lower Mesengut or ‘Mesenlehen,’ was first mentioned in 1276. Among the contracting parties was Perchtolden, ‘at that time Mösner there‘.

1600 - 1700

First Mention of the Tavern (1615). The Lex Tavern is first mentioned in 1615 in connection with a certain Mr. Wolfgang Lex. After Wolfgang Lex’s death in 1627, a document settled an agreement between his widow and their five minor children. In 1664, Paul Lex is recorded as the owner.

1800 - 1900

The Walter Era Begins in the 18th century, the succession of owners from the Walter family begins, starting with Jakob Walter (1706). In the 19th century, the owners mentioned were Johann Walter (1846), Josef Walter (1875) and Maria, Anna, Josef and Aloisia Walter (1907).

1900 - today

Lex Sepp’ and the Tradition as a Family Business Josef ‘Lex Sepp’ Walter (born 1900, died 1993) shaped the estate. His father, also Josef Walter, who died in 1907, was the founder of the Wiesen Cattle Breeding Cooperative (1902). Since then, the tavern has been run by the family, traditionally by the daughters-in-law and it is still a place today where card playing is actively preserved.

From the field straight to the plate

Our farming

In our traditional tavern, farming and hospitality have gone hand in hand for generations. What ends up on your plate often grows just a few meters away: fresh vegetables, herbs and more are cultivated by us. Seasonal, regional and made with great care – straight from the field into our kitchen and from there onto your plate.
